25/2 Under this headline the Leicester Mercury lists six Indian restaurants, including the Cuisine of India, which is also featured in the accompanying article.
As the Mercury says: "Usually the city is the place to go for the best nights out. But that rule doesn't apply to restaurants - the best of these are scattered throughout the city and county."
In an interview with Syed he tells the Mercury about ensuring quality by always using fresh, natural ingredients. He also describes his charity initiative to raise £100,000 by 2012. Read the full article here» |

7/12 Cuisine in Schools Initiative.
Syed entertained 60 pupils and teachers from the local Meadow Community Primary School. The children were shown around the kitchen and watched the Chef preparing and cooking food.
The visit was the first of many planned by Syed who hopes to draw attention to the skills shortage in restaurants and to encourage young people to consider careers in catering.
The children are learning about different ways of life in different cultures and the visit told them a little bit about Asian food. They were told about spices and other ingredients by Syed and Chef (right) and sampled the onion bhajis they had seen being cooked.
The initiative was featured on the Ben Jackson show on BBC Radio Leicester and included an interview with Syed by Jo Hollis.
The Leicester Mercury featured the visit in the 8th December edition.

Professor Bellamy was attending the launch of a 70 mile charity "Walk for Water" to be held over the Bank Holiday weekend by the And Albert Foundation. The event will start on Saturday near Banbury and will end at the Cuisine of India on Monday evening. Money raised will fund the Foundations projects to supply water to various west African villages.

Ambitious Plans
for Charity!
Syed Rahman, the restaurant manager, has set himself and the
restaurant the ambitious target of raising £100,000 for charity
over ten years. Syed told the Leicester Mercury (12/9/08) "If we can
do it, I would like to try to hold weekly events or at least
one every other week". Regular customers can help
acheive this total by continuing to support the restaurant through
the week, so that charity nights can be held frequently.
Update: The Mercury (11/5/09) reports that Syed now expects to reach his target by 2012, almost three years early. Read the article» |

'08 Another Great Review!
Tim Burke of the popular newspaper 'Metro' gave Cuisine of India
another resounding endorsement following his recent visit. Awarding
the restaurant five stars - rating it as 'Excellent',
Tim said "Here is a superbly run, plain-dealing
restaurant that gives the punters what they want without compromising
on quality"
He went on to say that "... the service throughout the
night was helpful and charming. The restaurant was full but
there was a good number of staff on duty, meaning they were
attentive and had time to talk. Moreover, they were friendly
and enthusiastic in answering our questions about the food." |

'07 Great Review by the Leicester Mercury!
The Leicester Mercury's Graham Melton visited Cuisine of India
and gave the restaurant a big thumbs up!
Graham asks the question in his report "So does it [the
restaurant] match up to its big city brothers? Can it offer
food and service you would expect from a high class curry house
in the hub of Leicester, as well as the rattling good atmosphere
that I have always encountered in the city's best eateries?"
The report continues: "Well, after our visit there
one Friday evening, the answer has to be a resounding "yes"."
Graham awarded almost maximum points - 24 out of 25 and declared
the restaurant as "...hard to fault".

on December 13 2007. |
