East Midlands Chilli Festival Set To Heat Up August!

Following the glorious heat wave this summer, there is a festival set to turn up the heat for the Midlands once again. Local growers of Chillies, ‘ChilliBobs’, who are situated at Chilli Farm have announced the brand new to 2014 East Midlands Chilli Festival at the Newark Site in Nottingham.

During this festival there will be a cook-off, stalls, demonstrations and for the very daring, a chilli eating competition, alongside many other events. Organiser Bob Price, aka Chilli Bob, said there are festivals in the south and north but nothing in the East Midlands “until now. Bob, who runs a chilli farm in Rolleston where he has grown 35 different varieties this year, said: Chillies are actually very healthy for you. They get the endorphins going.

Chilli Zone
This hot festival will be on the weekend of 16/17 August, let’s hope its scorching weather for all those chilli lovers out there. However, it’s not just for those who enjoy eating these fiery delights, as this festival has something for everyone!

Come and dive into the fascinating world of chillies with a 2 day extravaganza for chilli enthusiasts and families. There will be over 60 stalls with selections of spicy and non-spicy street foods to eat along with gifts, plants, demonstrations, competitions for children and adults, and all day free entertainment for the children and music from local bands and groups.

Something For Everyone
In addition to the above, there will be a selection of local beer and ales, also delicious ice-cream for those who can’t handle the heat! Saturday evening and the chilli festival turns into a music event, with local to the area bands such as Acoustica and Skin, Bone to provide an atmospheric background while you explore the local street foods and drinks. For those who may have had a few too many drinks, or families who want the whole experience, you can either camp or stay in a caravan for just Friday night or both Friday and Saturday night.

Chilli heat is measured in Scovilles. The classic jalapeno pepper is whopping 8,000 Scovilles, but this is nothing in comparison to the Carolina Reaper, which is nearly two million Scoville OUCH! Chillies are not all about the heat; they come in all shapes and varieties of flavour, so there’s something for everyone.
