Cumin
Cumin seeds are a light-ish green in colour and about 5mm long. Cumin has a very strong and spicy aroma, with an opulent, slightly bitter and earthy flavour. Studies have highlighted cumin to be protective of memory loss and the damaging effects of stress on the body. Cumin has also been found to help with the common cold, anemia, respiratory disorders, insomnia, diabetes and digestion!

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a sweet tasting spice used in many different dishes in the Indian cuisine. The smell of cinnamon is very pleasant and stimulates all the senses, yet calms all the nerves. Whole cinnamon is used for ground – in cakes, sweet dishes, fruit pies and it can also be used in curries and goes very well with chicken. Many studies have shown that cinnamon is good at regulating blood sugar levels, making it a good choice for diabetics and for those who wish to sustain good energy levels.

Like many other exotic spices, cinnamon has its many health benefits. It is known to reduce high cholesterol levels and pain linked to arthritis. Not only this, but it also works as a natural food preservative.

Chilli Powder
This spicy powder is made from grinding dried chillies together. If you want to bring some fire to your Indian dishes, add a little chilli powder to balance heat with taste.

Chilli powders are based on the ground flesh and seeds of dried chillies. The heat comes from capsaicin which relives sinus trouble, arthritis and headaches, is very good for your heart and helps burn body fat!
